Enhancement Program (EEP) Starting school year 2009-2010, Maryhill School of Theology
(MST) launched a special English Enhancement Program (EEP) intended not only for
current and prospective MST students, but also for international students
seeking admission to colleges and universities and for individuals interested in
creative and personalized English. The courses in this program aim to provide
the participants an excellent opportunity to improve their English proficiency
and to help them apply the conventions of the English language.
SUMMER COURSES APRIL 12 - MAY 21, 2010
GENERAL ENGLISH COURSE 1 and 2 General English Course 1 is intended for beginners. It aims to develop proficiency in the four language skills: listening, speaking, reading and writing. It applies language learning principles and communicative strategies to facilitate acquisition of the language in a variety of situations.
General English Course 2
enhances the skills acquired in General English Course 1 and provides additional
skills necessary for social and academic situations. It focuses on correctness
in the use of the language in more intensive tasks. English Advancement Course 1 is intended not only for students enrolled at MST but also for those who feel that additional work in English would be helpful prior to admission to a degree program. It aims to provide the students with intensive activities and tasks in reading and writing to help them upgrade their skills to meet the demands of their academic courses. This course, therefore, is specifically for those students who feel that additional work in English would be helpful prior to admission to a degree program.
Classes are taught by a faculty team working together to create the most
balanced and effective learning experience in the four language skill areas. The
EEP curriculum emphasizes practical, communicative, student-centered instruction
in reading, writing, speaking, and listening. Listening: This course addresses all aspects of listening from sound discrimination to taking notes in the classroom. Speaking: In this class, the instructor encourages students to communicate their ideas in English in informal discussion groups, role plays, and problem solving situations. Pronunciation, inflection, and intonation are addressed. Reading: This course emphasizes vocabulary building, reading comprehension, and
reading skills. Course Offerings: · GENERAL ENGLISH COURSE 1 · GENERAL ENGLISH COURSE 2 · ENGLISH ADVANCEMENT COURSE 1 · ENGLISH ADVANCEMENT COURSE 2 Duration of the Courses: (6 weeks) Schedule of Classes: MONDAY- FRIDAY 8:00 AM - 12:00 NOON REGISTRATION To register, please complete the enclosed application form. Submit this together with an administration fee of Ph P 300.00. No refund will be granted after the start of any session.
To apply for admission to English Proficiency Courses at MST, all international students must meet the following requirements:
